Support TU's restoration work and enter to win some great prizes!

As temperatures warm and life is rejuvenated this spring, it is the perfect time to hit the water in pursuit of hungry trout coming out of their winter slumber. Even better, the annual Hendrickson hatch takes place each spring. FAQs

You can submit a picture of your fish by email to jacob.fetterman@tu.org and also post it on Instagram to @TUBattenkillHRI with #HomeRivers2021.

All legal methods of fishing are eligible, though we do encourage the use of artificial lures. NOTE: We will only accept one "big fish" entry per river per participant, for a maximum of 4 drawing entries. Qualifying rivers are the Battenkill, Walloomsac, Mettawee and Hoosic.

We do not require proof of measurement.

For all fish pictures, please remember to practice ethical fish handling: wet your hands if you must handle the fish and be sure your camera is ready to shoot before lifting the fish from the water. #keepemwet

Submit a report of your day of fishing using our short, online fishing log form. The form asks for basic information such as where you fished, for how long, fishing methods employed, and fish caught. It also asks optional questions about water temperature and whether you saw any fish with clipped fins.

The information you submit will be used by TU as well as state fishing agencies to help with fish management projects and future policies and program for anglers.

To earn entries for planting trees, visit the TU Home Rivers Open Facebook page to find a qualifying planting event. RSVP and attend the event. Then email a picture of you planting a tree to jacob.fetterman@tu.org. Don't forget to also post the photo on Instagram to @TUBattenkillHRI, using the #TreesForTrout and #HomeRivers2021 hashtags.

No. All legal fishing methods are allowed, as long as they are catch and release. Please observe fishing regulations for the river you are fishing and be sure you have an active fishing license.

Prize winners will be notified by email or phone. We also hope to hold a live broadcast of the drawing. Watch the TU Home Rivers Open Facebook page for more info.

Meet the Organization

Battenkill. Walloomsac. Hoosic. Mettawee. These waters are home to precious trout that need your help. Whether you’ve always lived in Southwestern Vermont or just visit for the great fishing, we invite you to join our effort to keep our home waters and local fish healthy.

OUR MISSION

Trout Unlimited’s mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. Locally, in our southwestern corner of Vermont, we do that at a grassroots level by organizing community conservation projects. We educate ourselves and the general public about trout conservation and act as a corps of volunteers when it comes to cleaning up our rivers and streams. We enjoy the dirty work of rolling up our sleeves, donning waders, and working with other groups for the betterment of our precious home waters. Last but not least, we provide a welcoming social outlet for anyone who wants to talk trout and angling or get out on the water.
